Developing of the Orang Malu Massage

In the latter part of 2006, the Dutch massage therapist Helen Helen Lodder (born in 1970) developed the Orang Malu massage. Helen has almost 25 years of massage experience in both Eastern and Western massage techniques. This experience, combined with a passion and enthusiasm for her profession, makes the Orang Malu massage therapy a beautiful crown on her work as a massage therapist.

Today Helen continues to develop new and innovative massage techniques that are as refreshing as her first discovery….. The Orang Malu massage technique.

Training for this technique is offered at her education centre Massage Concept International. It is the intention and ambition of this centre to launch the unique Orang Malu massage on a worldwide scale. At the moment the Orang Malu massage is already operating in The Netherlands, Belgium and Curacao.

The Orang Malu massage is a whole new way of massage. It embraces the Oriental culture and connects it to the Western Culture. Incorporate energetic manual massage movements and meridian massage with warm oriental essential oils introduce the Orang Malu massage to your client.

Combines with heated kayu (wooden massage roles) in two different sizes, you'll be able to work on the tissues below the skin. By applying the kayu-kayu into this massage, it makes the often heavy, deep tissue massage easier to do.

Legend of the Orang Malu massage

The East and West meet in a marriage of knowledge, tradition, innovation and movements like no other in the world. Its roots are Indonesian, its philosophy is connected to Buddhism and its movements are Dutch.

Watching Orang-Malu demonstrations will be like taking a trip around the world. The sensation and results of this massage technique amaze observers and professionals alike, drawing in all five senses into a full embrace. Based on fine intuition, backed by professional skill, practiced hands and a deep understanding of Asian religions devoted to physical and psychological wellbeing, this massage technique was created to be unlike any other in the world.

The recipient of the massage is the focus, brought into the natural state of relaxation to which Orang-Malu leads.

We learned about an Indonesian legend talking with the founder of the Orang Malu masage, Helen Lodder. Orang-Malu is related to a legendary episode in Buddha’s life.

The Buddha reflected on the Universe, when sorrowful for the pains of the world and deeply concerned about the fate of humanity, he assumed a specific posture, which tradition calls the “circle of life”.

The Buddha, sitting cross-legged in the traditional meditation pose, closed on himself, with his head between his hands, has a round, cyclical form. His bent arms look like a fetus, the start of human existence; the back looks like a large heart, the feelings that drive life; the head and hands that hold it, seen from above, evoke a smiling face, the happiness that surprises us; and finally the crossed legs can look like big wings on which to free ourselves and reach eternal life.

In Indonesia, the statue that represents and reminds everyone of this ancient Buddhist legend is called Orang-Malu, giving the name to the technique. It is the statue of the “circle of life”, along with the kayu, that are the key figures of this method. The kit for practicing Orang-Malu includes two small statues of the “circle of life” and four batons made in two different thicknesses. They are made with Indonesian wood from a specific tree, under which, according to legend, the Buddha paused for this reflection on humanity.

What sets the Orang-Malu massage technique apart from any other kind of massage we know?

First of all, the rituals. The motions practiced by professionals are slow, careful, purposeful, looking to the outside eye like a gentle, rhythmic dance that brings us to life’s natural rhythm for physical and psychological balance. The sensations of sound and scent from the use of fine essential oils to heat the kayu and statues in water; the soothing notes of a piano or of an undertow that lazily laps the sand.

The use of Orang-Malu statues. Its round shape and the protrusion the Buddha’s head help open deep energy channels, gifting the recipients with the feeling of achieving peace in their senses.

The kayu: essential tools for this massage, they help the masseur in the movements of kneading, pressing and manipulating that help eliminate toxins, accumulated fat, cellulite and excess liquid.

Without question, Orang-Malu is a complete massage technique and the least tiring for the masseurs, who can use the kayu and statues to effect a deep, truly effective massage without wearing out their own bodies.
